Onset Music Group

Onset Music Group is a South African a cappella ensemble founded in 2022 by Neo Msibi, Lesedi Maphakela, Thulani Makhoba, Simphiwe Hlakuva and Carol Malobola. Their vocal sound blends traditional and contemporary influences with intricate harmonies and a magnetic stage presence.

The ensemble's official catalogue includes the Nhlonipho EP and songs such as Voice Note and Izinkomo. Their work combines a love of vocal performance with music production and education.

Selected as winners of Fair Play South Africa, Onset performed at the first Ngeke! Festival in 2025. The festival introduced them as a vocal quintet whose voices inspire hope and change, joining a global movement of young musicians speaking out against corruption.
